Africa-Press – Kenya. <\/strong><\/span>Inspector General of Police Japhet Koome has been ordered to arraign Azimio La Umoja leader Raila Odinga’s bodyguard Maurie Ogeta.<\/p>\n

Justice Lawrence Mugambi issued the ruling on Friday when the matter came up before him.<\/p>\n

“That, pending the hearing and determination of this application inter-parties, a writ of habeus corpus is hereby issued directing the 2nd Respondent to produce Maurice Ogeta before a court of competent jurisdiction in Nairobi or any other Court within the Republic of Kenya for an inquiry into the issue of his detention,” reads the notice.<\/p>\n

Mugambi further directed that responses on the matter be filed and served within three days after the order.<\/p>\n

“Leave is granted to the Petitioner\/Applicant to file and serve any further documentation\/replying affidavit if need be within three days,” reads the notice.<\/p>\n

The case will be mentioned on July 31, 2023, for compliance and further direction.<\/p>\n

Ogeta is said to have been arrested by police on Wednesday morning while on his way to work and his whereabouts are unknown up to date.<\/p>\n

His family had given the government until 6 pm Friday to have him released.<\/p>\n

His mother Jane Ogeta while addressing the media on Wednesday demanded his release.<\/p>\n

“I can’t say anything without seeing my son, I will only talk when I see him,” she said.<\/p>\n

She said that she heard the news around 10 am on Wednesday about the son’s arrest.<\/p>\n

“My son, my child, may God protect him. What has he done wrong? He is only a bodyguard. Give me back my child. I want my child.”<\/p>\n

Jane said she was shocked when she got information around 1pm from a relative in Migori that Maurice’s whereabouts are unknown.<\/p>\n

“We only know our son as Baba’s bodyguard. Why have they taken him away? What has he done?” she questioned.<\/p>\n

The family and the Komolo community at large said they were concerned with the silence of key institutions on the ‘disappearance’ of their loved one.<\/p>\n

On Thursday, Raila dismissed claims that his bodyguard had been released.<\/p>\n

The ODM party leader shared a video with the hashtag Free Ogeta, with the caption “We will leave no one behind”.<\/p>\n
