Africa-Press – Kenya. <\/strong><\/span>Narc Kenya leader Martha Karua has called out the court for deferring its ruling on a bail application filed by former Mungiki leader Maina Njenga.<\/p>\n

Njenga was arrested on Wednesday night alongside his brother Njoroge Njenga and his personal assistant Felix Ratu while at their father’s home in Kiserian.<\/p>\n

Makadara Chief Magistrate Francis Kyambia remanded him at Industrial Area remand prison pending the ruling on the bail application on Tuesday.<\/p>\n

Karua took issue with the court’s decision.<\/p>\n

“No court should ever defer bail ruling which by nature is a straightforward matter,” she said.<\/p>\n

Njenga, a close ally of Raila Odinga, is believed to have been arrested in relation to the anti-government protests called by the Azimio leader.<\/p>\n

The prosecution opposed his release on bond but not for his co-accused.<\/p>\n

The DPP argued that there was a likelihood that Njenga may commit more crimes or offences from the record of his character as he was recently charged in a Nakuru court.<\/p>\n

The charge sheet indicated that Njenga and his co-accused were found with offensive weapons during the time of their arrest.<\/p>\n

They included 14 machetes, 24 Maasai swords, 46 rungus and three jembe sticks in circumstances which police said raised a reasonable presumption that the weapons were intended to be used in prejudicial to public order.<\/p>\n

They denied the charges.<\/p>\n
