Africa-Press – Kenya. <\/strong><\/span>The world football governing body, Fifa have provided funds to the tune of 4.5 million USD (Sh638,100,000) to develop a technical centre in Machakos County.<\/p>\n

Speaking on Monday, Football Kenya Federation (FKF) honcho Nick Mwendwa said the Machakos county government had agreed to lease out a parcel of land for the next 30 years for its construction.<\/p>\n

The construction work is expected to begin in six months and will be concluded in two years. Mwendwa divulged that the centre will house three FIFA standard pitches, offices, accommodation facilities, and training centres with all junior national teams being hosted at the facility.<\/p>\n

Mwendwa said it was a requirement for all member associations to have technical centres. “The construction of a center in Machakos can be described as timely. We are just fulfilling one of the conditions set by the world governing body,” Mwendwa said.<\/p>\n

“A technical centre is a need for every Fifa member association worldwide. We haven’t constructed one in Kenya, but Fifa has given us the mandate to do it since last year. It is now up to us to decide where the technical center would be located,” he added.<\/p>\n

He was emphatic that the project would be crucial in helping nurture budding talent in the country.<\/p>\n

“We hope to see youth tournaments and school games being held here in the future upon its completion,” Mwendwa said.<\/p>\n

Mwendwa explained why the federation had settled on Machakos, saying the county was strategically placed and already had a brilliant infrastructure.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe chose Machakos because it’s closer to the JKIA airport. The infrastructure is also too notch,\u201d Mwendwa said.<\/p>\n

“Additionally, the county has shown instant and genuine willingness to set some land aside for the project.”<\/p>\n

Speaking during the event, Machakos county, governor Wavinya Ndeti welcomed the idea, terming it a move in the right direction.<\/p>\n

“Here in Machakos, we want to produce our Ronaldos and Peles.” This collaboration will not only aid in the development of talent in the region and Kenya as a whole, but it will also create job possibilities for our people,” said Ndeti.<\/p>\n

“It’s a partnership we’re proud of, and we’re grateful to FKF for agreeing to bring this project here.” “We are excited to see this project come to fruition,” she continued.<\/p>\n
