Africa-Press – Kenya. <\/strong><\/span>Kenya’s Davis Cup captain George Oyoo has termed the draws tricky for his charges ahead of the tournament kick-off on Wednesday in Kigali, Rwanda. Team Kenya will face Ghana, Cameroon, and Botswana in Pool ‘A’ with hosts Rwanda, Mozambique, Nigeria and Angola battling it out in Pool B’. Kenya open their campaign against Ghana.<\/p>\n

Oyoo said he is looking forward to the competitive tournament. \u201cThe morale in the team is good. We arrived safely and our first workout was on Monday. It’s going to be an exciting week for the team as we seek to gain promotion,\u201d added Oyoo.<\/p>\n

The tournament will be held at the Ecology Club in Kigali, which has the same surface as the Nairobi Club. \u201c The surface is good and almost similar to our training base at Nairobi Club. I am confident the boys will adjust accordingly to the conditions,\u201d observed Oyoo.<\/p>\n

He said they will take one match at a time. \u201cWe are not going to underestimate anyone. All the teams have trained hard and will pose a challenge but we will be on our guard,\u201d said Oyoo.<\/p>\n

The team consists of Ishmael Changawa, Spain-based siblings Keean and Kael Shah, Derrick Ominde and Ibrahim Kibet. Changawa last represented Kenya between 2011 and 2019 in the competition while Kibet last played between 2012 -2021.<\/p>\n

Changawa said he was delighted to be back playing for the national team after a three-year absence. \u201cI am glad to be back. We have had a very rigorous training session and we want to get back to where we were four years ago. Mentally, we know it won’t be easy but we are ready for the challenge.”<\/p>\n

The top two teams will be promoted to Group 3 while the team that finishes last will get relegated to Group 5. Kenya’s best performance came in 1992 when they were in the Euro Africa Group 1, where they reached the semis.<\/p>\n
