Africa-Press – Kenya. <\/strong><\/span>National Assembly Majority leader Kimani Ichung’wah has asked President William Ruto to livestream his meeting with Azimio leader Raila Odinga.<\/p>\n

Ruto on Tuesday invited Raila for talks at a time of his convenience over his incessant push against the government over high taxes and cost of living.<\/p>\n

While calling for transparency in the talks, Ichung’wah encouraged Ruto to attend the meeting saying “dialogue is a good thing”.<\/p>\n

“We want to make it easier for you…If you get two seats; your seat, his seat and a camera, then you project it live on TV, we shall be able to watch all over the country and ensure that the issues you are engaging on touch on Kenyans,” he said.<\/p>\n

Ichung’wah was speaking on Friday during the President’s tour of Kilifi county where he had accompanied him.<\/p>\n

Hinting that Ruto will not allow mediators during the talks, the Kikuyu MP said Kenyans needed to know the details of the meeting.<\/p>\n

“It is so gracious of you Your Excellency that you do not need a mediator to discuss matters that concern the Kenyan people. But the Kenyan people are now telling you that inasmuch as you can engage with the former Prime Minister and those in his side, please do so publicly,” he said.<\/p>\n

The Majority leader said mediators and witnesses to the talks will be the entire Kenyan population.<\/p>\n

He said they will back Ruto’s call for talks with Raila and even rop in former President Uhuru Kenyatta so long as the the talks are going to be centered on the well-being of Kenyans.<\/p>\n

Ichung’wah discouraged any talks on power sharing and negotiations beyond the August 9 presidential elections.<\/p>\n

He noted that the decision on leadership was made by voters and affirmed by the court following the petitioned filed by Azimio at the Supreme Court.<\/p>\n

“Usihusishwe kwa mambo ya ugawanaji wa viti. Nimesikia pia wameconfirm hawataki nusu mkate, na ni sawa,” he said.<\/p>\n

Ichung’wah further said there is need to end demonstrations which have given way to violence, looting and destruction of private and public property.<\/p>\n

He commended the Opposition for holding an interdenominational requiem mass for those who died during last week’s protests.<\/p>\n

“I see today in Nairobi they are praying. And I’m happy that finally they have recognised that the giver and taker of life is almighty God,” he said.<\/p>\n

In a surprise move, Ruto on Tuesday invited Raila for talks catching even his allies off-guard.<\/p>\n

“My friend Raila Odinga, I’m off to Tanzania for a human capital meeting to harmonise the expansion of employment opportunities in our continent. I’m back tomorrow evening, and as you have always known, I’m available to meet one on one with you anytime at your convenience,” the President said via a tweet.<\/p>\n

Raila, however, said inasmuch as he is ready for dialogue, the talks will only happen in the presence of a third-party mediator.<\/p>\n

“He is not somebody you can trust, he keeps changing words that is why I insist there must be a mediator between us. I’m ready to talk if there is a mediator between us,” Raila was quoted as having told AFP on Wednesday.<\/p>\n
