Africa-Press – Kenya. <\/strong><\/span>Kirinyaga residents are set to reap big from Kenya Kwanza Government as President William Ruto on Saturday commissioned the largest water project in the county.<\/p>\n

The president said that his government had also committed a further Sh 500 million for supply of water to villages in Mwea.<\/p>\n

He said that his government will work closely with the county government to ensure that clean water is accessible in all the villages in the county as well as irrigation water to enable farmers to increase food production.<\/p>\n

He spoke Saturday at Kagio Town where he commissioned the Kerugoya -Kutus Water Supply Project that will supply water to about 350,000 residents.<\/p>\n

The project will produce an additional 30,000 cubic meters of water daily benefiting major towns such as Kerugoya, Kutus, Kagio and Sagana plus their environs.<\/p>\n

President Ruto added that ongoing construction of additional water canals in the Mwea irrigation scheme will increase land under irrigation by an extra 10,000 acres.<\/p>\n

To further lower the cost of food and enhance increased food production in the country, the president said that his administration has already lowered the cost of subsidized fertilizer from Sh3, 500 to Sh2, 500.<\/p>\n

Ruto who is expected back to the County on Wednesday for the ground breaking of the affordable housing units, said that the housing project will absorb more than 50,000 youths who will be sourced as laborers for the construction of 20,000 units within the county.<\/p>\n

At the same time, the president said that one billion shillings will be set aside for the development of the rural Economic Processing Zone whose construction will be launched before the year ends.<\/p>\n

He added that the mega project will go a long way in providing more than 30,000 jobs for the local youths.<\/p>\n

He said his administration will continue prioritising the locally made goods over imports. This will fully support local manufacturers who in turn will create employment opportunities for many unemployed Kenyans.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe cannot afford importing goods when we have the resources to create them. It is unfair for example to import beds when we have plenty of locally available resources which we can use to make our own beds,” Ruto said.<\/p>\n

In addition, the president noted that the government will partner with the ward reps across the country in the creation of digital hubs which will go a long way in securing more than 400 jobs for the young people.<\/p>\n

Additionally the head of state noted that his administration will continue partnering with other nations as far as employment opportunities in the digital space for the youths is concerned.<\/p>\n

He noted that through such platforms the government will steadily realise the creation of up to one million jobs in an effort to tackle the unemployment crisis in the country.<\/p>\n

As for the ongoing debate on political truce with the Azimio coalition, President Ruto ruled out the possibility of a handshake asserting that elections are over and it is time to deliver election promises to the citizens.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe will not allow any street protests and there will be no more violence in Kenya\u201d. He said.<\/p>\n

Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua reiterated that there would be no handshake as there was a legitimate government in place.<\/p>\n

He said that Ruto won fairly against all odds and plans that were hatched to see his failure .<\/p>\n

The deputy president at the same time pledged to continue streamlining the tea, coffee and milk sectors which are the region\u2019s economic backbone.<\/p>\n

He at the same time called on Kirinyaga resident to continue supporting Kenya Kwanza\u2019s government as it is committed to serve and positively change their lives<\/p>\n

The Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi said it is not the business of the government to organise the opposition, noting that the Azimio faction had left out Mt Kenya leaders in the bipartisan talks.<\/p>\n

On her part, Governor Anne Waiguru thanked the president for the support in development of the upcoming Sagana Industrial Park as well as the water projects such as the one he commissioned.<\/p>\n

She appealed to the president to consider the completion of four roads in the county whose completion is pending.<\/p>\n

She also thanked him for appointing former Kirinyaga Woman Representative Wangui Ngirici as the Chairman of Kenya Seed Company.<\/p>\n

About dialogue with the opposition, the governor said that if it were to happen, it should be done in the open so that every Kenyan hears what each side is talking about.<\/p>\n

She reiterated that Kirinyaga was solidly behind the Kenya Kwanza Government and was against any handshake with the opposition.<\/p>\n

Ruto was accompanied by regional leaders amongst them Kirinyaga county leaders Senator Kamau Murango, woman rep Njeri Maina, Gichugu MP Gichimu Githinji,Ndia MP Geroge Kariuki amongst others .<\/p>\n
