Africa-Press – Kenya. <\/strong><\/span>Siaya Governor James Orengo has said he is satisfied with the progress of the implementation of the Sh68 million surgical complex project.<\/p>\n

The hospital upgrade project, launched last September by the Governor, is being undertaken at the Siaya County referral hospital.<\/p>\n

The governor said the project will be a game changer in the provision of health care services in the county<\/p>\n

In his Nyalore Manifesto, the Governor identified the improvement of the County referral hospital and quality health care provisions to the residents of the rural county as his primary focus.<\/p>\n

The construction works which is 50 percent, include the building of a modern Theatre and a Maternity wing at the Referral Hospital.<\/p>\n

Apart from the surgical theatre, an ICU complex centre will also be constructed.<\/p>\n

According to the governor, Sh53 million will facilitate the construction of the complex while Sh 14 million will go towards equipping the theatre and the Complex.<\/p>\n

The construction works are expected to be concluded in December this year to pave the way for full operationalization by January.<\/p>\n

Once completed, the complex will be a one-stop shop service delivery point with four theatre rooms, a ten-bed capacity ICU, a laboratory and a pharmacy.<\/p>\n

The theatres will have patient preparation rooms, sluice rooms, patient holding areas, a four-bed post anaesthesia care unit, office spaces, a nursing station, reception and a store.<\/p>\n

Speaking to the Star on Monday, Governor Orengo noted that the project will go a long way in enhancing the capacity and status of the referral hospital.<\/p>\n

“It will boost the chances of elevating it to a Level – 5 Hospital. We anticipate that the construction will be completed by December, with full operationalization slated for January next year,” Orengo noted.<\/p>\n

“This initiative shall significantly enhance the quality of service delivery to the people of Siaya,” he added.<\/p>\n

In phase one of the project, the County Government of Siaya spent Sh100 million towards the construction of a maternity wing at Madiany, Ambira and Ukwala hospitals.<\/p>\n

Part of the funding was channelled on water pan projects.<\/p>\n

“We intend to equip the refurbished maternity and theatre with quality equipment,” the governor said.<\/p>\n

Orengo’s administration last September also opened a 42-bed capacity maternity and theatre that was refurbished at the Siaya Referral Hospital.<\/p>\n

The rehabilitated theatre has the capability to handle 12 deliveries daily according to the county chief.<\/p>\n

“My administration has a comprehensive plan and strategy which shall address our reproductive, maternal and child health services,” the governor pointed out.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe will give priority towards modernizing health sectors in Siaya and Bondo sub-county before we cascade it to another sub-county. Our priority is health, water and food security,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
