Africa-Press – Lesotho. Lesotho flag was raised high as Likuena won 3-1 against Seychelles to qualify for the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) group stage qualifiers. Likuena
won with an aggregate of 3-1 following their goalless draw last Wednesday in the first leg in Mauritius. For the second leg, Likuena managed to defeat Seychelles on Sunday, March 27 at
Dobsonville stadium in South Africa. Likuena winger Katleho Makateng made his debut within a few minutes of the game by scoring the first goal for the team
against their opponent (Seychelles), then followed by Likuena striker Motebang Sera who also scored the second goal in 7 minutes. As the game progressed, Seychelles’ Midfielder Jean-Yves Perry Ernesta scored in
27minutes from the penalty spot after a foul by Rethabile Rasethuntša in the box during the first half.
The score was now ; Likuena 2-1 Seychelles. After the second half, Letlatsa Moshoeshoe was in for Refiloe Mothae and the team seemed to create a way to score more goals and they had a good ball possession
even though Seychelles seemed to fight their way to equalize but were denied the chance. Makateng scored the third goal for Likuena in 77 minutes after Seychelles’ goalkeeper Alvin
Michael made a run to catch the ball, only to find himself outside the penalty area so he let it pass him because if he did catch it, he was going to catch a red
card. It passed him then found Makateng on the other side. That is how easily he scored the third goal even though Seychelles defenders did make a harsh contact
causing his injury and therefore was replaced by Tumelo Khutlang. Likuena has 4 points after two matches where they drew for away match and won for home
match with overall of 3 goals scored for both matches. They were scored one goal for matches they played and made a clean sheet for away match where they were not scored a single goal.
