Africa-Press – Lesotho. During the weekly police reports on Tuesday, Police Deputy Spokesperson Inspector ‘Mareabetsoe Mofoka expressed worry over escalating cases of stock theft.

Mofoka reported that the police received 39 cases of stock theft last week, out of which only six arrests were successful. Stolen livestock include 48 cows, four horses, five donkeys 145 sheep and 21 goats.

In the same week, the police were able to find 92 cows, two horses, seven donkeys, three sheep and three goats. On other reports, Mofoka mentioned that Member of

Parliament Thabang Mafojane (51) of Ha Tšosane is among five men who had stolen five bull cows from a farm in South Africa (SA). Two of the stolen cows were

found slaughtered at one of the butcheries at Hlotse called Square butchery while two bulls were found at Mafojane’s place. However, he was not prosecuted

with other suspect because he is a government official so the police had to wait for the prosecutors permission before he stands trial. Tsukunyane Kukushe (29) from Matholeng Mafeteng, who had appeared

before court on April 7 facing charges of car theft, was offered free bail. “The culprit was unable to give clear documentation of his car, this was after a 29

year old form Ha-‘Masana reported his car missing. Also, a 22 year-old woman from Thaba-Tseka, Ha Tsolo was caught by the community policing forum with the suspicion of human trafficking.

The suspect had talked a 26 year old woman into going to a local public bar were she was unknowingly sold to a man for M50.00, however the man is still

fleeing from the police. Moreover, Lebohang Tsiee (25) from Mantšonyane, Thaba-Tseka appeared before court for illegal possession of a nine millimeter (9mm) firearm and seven bullets.

He was sentenced to a year in prison after failing to pay a bail of M5000.00. Mofoka rebuked illegal possession of guns in Thaba-Tseka district, where they had found 20

illegal pistols from December last year to date. She also expressed gratitude to the residents of Thaba-Tseka for cooperating with the police by giving them

tip offs about these illegal guns. She said last year two armed men had broken into a South African businessman‘s home, where they stole a laptop, four cellphones, money and shot the man dead.

She added that on Sunday 10th April, the police arrested three suspects who were in possession of the deceased‘s laptop and cellphones. Among the suspects, one was caught with an illegal firearm which had five bullets. The suspects will appear before court today.
