Africa-Press – Lesotho. THE campaign period has always triggered the dreaded Foot in Mouth disease among politicians. The ailment is not caused by viruses or bacteria but desperation for relevance and votes.

You know it has reached our shores when a politician shoves their foot in their mouth to utter some astounding gibberish. It’s either they are spewing blatant lies or spraying opponents with bile.

Muckraker did not have to wait long for a signal that the pandemic was upon us. Samuel Rapapa was the first to be diagnosed. The symptoms were apparent when he heaved himself to the podium at a rally in Ha-Makhoroana on Sunday.

He had a bout somewhere in the middle of his pedantic speech. Perhaps to give a fillip to his dreary speech, Rapapa emitted some sexist tosh against Tlokotsi ’Manyoko, the MP who has just defected to the ABC and defected to the DC.

“He was a man while in the ABC but now he is nothing but a woman,” Rapapa said. A politician saying someone is “nothing but a woman”.

Let that jibe percolate as we recall that he was pooping it at a crowd dominated by women. “They wanted a woman from Hololo to come closer to them, how could a man be called ’Manyoko?”

In other words, ’Manyoko is a woman because he jumped ship. Which, in Rapapa’s greymatter, is to say women are inferior to men. The ABC, according to his warped reasoning, is a party of real men.

Muckraker will not bore you some feminist prattling. Suffice to say Rapapa should focus on remembering the size of his shirts and suit jackets before he speaks at any rally.

It is because of his failure to control his mouth that he is stuck as a chairman of the ABC, a position no one cares about. A silly joke of a title. A position that comes with no real power or influence.

Only political nonentities contest for such a scarecrow position. It’s not a miracle that you have never heard anyone fighting to be the ABC chairman position.

It doesn’t matter because it has no matter. So if Rapapa wanted to insult ‘Manyoko, he should have called him an ABC chairman or simply ‘a Rapapa’. And since he has started the business of insulting people with their surnames we might also ask what ‘Rapapa’ means.

Eish, Father of Papa (porridge). A whole man fathering papa. Why someone would be named Father of Papa is a mystery that Rapapa should unravel before he starts investigating the meanings of other people’s surnames.

In the meantime, he must be asking himself why he is chairman and not the leader of the ABC. At least ‘Manyoko was brave enough to make a decision and stand with it.

The same cannot be said for the Father of Papa who chickened out of the ABC leadership race in January. Many will recall how Rapapa was all over the country and radio stations threatening to be the ABC leader.

Then twenty minutes before the election Father of Papa pulled out and threw his weight behind Kabi. He was obviously singing for his papa because he thought Kabi would be the next prime minister.

But Kabi and even rats in his Qeme constituency know that Rapapa’s support did not change anything. It was as useless as papa without relish. It causes malnutrition.
