Africa-Press – Lesotho. There are four things about Lesotho’s politicians that will never change. They are petty, corrupt and selfish. And they are childish. We have always known that.
Retired judge Justice Dikgang Moseneke should not be shocked because he comes from South Africa, a country teeming with politicians who are masters at thievery.
He is obviously well acquainted with the petty and selfish type. But Muckraker doubts he has met the childish kind that he has been forced to handle in Lesotho.
Even if his country has such ilk, it is impossible that they can match what we have here in this country that is an ulcer in South Africa’s belly. Here politicians take pride in being spoilt brats.
Moseneke, a whole retired chief justice, has been changing the stinking diapers of our politicians for years. It’s a thankless job because the politicians keep defecating in their pants.
It’s a kaking festival that has been unrelenting for the past several years. This week, he was working overtime to clean up the mess. He probably ran out of diapers because some politicians had running tummies.
They are protesting against Moseneke’s request that they sign a pledge to complete the reforms. You heard that right. Our politicians did not want to sign a pledge to complete the reforms they have been working on for the past two years.
Moseneke, a foreigner, was profusely begging them to sign a pledge to complete reforms that are necessary for their country. You cannot make that up. They manufactured excuses about timing and lack of consultations to avoid signing the pledge.
All to avoid doing the right thing. You know something is amiss when our politicians start screaming about procedure. Such protests have nothing to do with wanting to do things the correct way.
They have always treated producers as some minor irritants to be ignored. They have peed on their procedures in their own political parties. They have molested their own constitutions.
Those in government have thumped their big noses at procedures to rig tenders and dish out jobs to their friends, relatives and zealots. They could even give their dogs and goats jobs if they could read and write.
They are raising procedural issues on the reforms because they don’t want them passed. People who cannot spell their names under pressure are now talking about procedure. Phew! Moseneke must keep changing the diapers until he faints in exhaustion. He is our babysitter and he must just take care of our silly babies.
