LSRC inaugurates new Committee

Africa-Press – Lesotho. The Lesotho Sports and Recreation Commission (LSRC) has presented the new committee members to the Minister of Gender, Youth, Sports and Recreation Hon.
Likeleli Tampane on Friday. The newly elected LSRC committee members have vowed to bring changes that will take local sports to another level. This committee is made up of 17 members.
The committee members also went on to elect the LSRC executive committee of five members, which is let by the President Litšitso Motšeremeli. Hon.
Tampane thanked the previous committee for the wonderful work they had done, she said the previous commission had a lot of success but in particular commended them for not having issues that led to law suits or intervention of the courts.
The Minister also commended them for getting an office that they operated in. She also applauded them for taking part in the Maseru 2020 Region 5 Youth Games because Lesotho attained position three out of ten countries. She said the committee did not give up during the Covid-19 pandemic but instead continued to promote training among players.
Tampane said the Ministry is expecting a lot from this new committee, she said the committee should work hand in hand with the ministry to make sure that the National Sports and Recreation Policy 2021-2031 is implemented. She said the commission is expected to write a clear plan of the government‘s subvention to sports organisations, urging them to avoid favouritism among sports organisations.
The Minister added that the committee should work hand in hand with the Lesotho National Olympic Committee (LNOC) for the success of sports programmes like the Podium Performance and the High performance Programme. Among other things, she emphasised that the committee should give out allowances to relevant stakeholders.
For his part, the President advised the committees to follow the correct procedures when issues arise in the commission. Motšeremeli added that it is their duty to remove children on the streets and attract to sports so that they do not fall victims of drug abuse or teenage pregnancies. The newly appointed LSRC President was awarded a brand new laptop by the Ministry to commence his work without any complications.
