Africa-Press – Lesotho. The M189 million worth Lesotho Lowlands Water Project Phase III (LLWP-III) was officially launched on Monday at Ha Marakabei. The project will see construction of a massive dam along the Hololo River, funded by Saudi Fund for Development (SFD)

The LLWP-III Manager ‘Mamathe Makhaola revealed that the project is ready to start, saying it will serve Butha-Buthe and some parts of Leribe with clean water.

She urged Likila and Linare to work together to ensure the success of the project. Makhaola said the project will cater for 80% clean water, which has always been a major challenge for people living in those areas.

Meanwhile, the Minister of Water Hon. Kemiso Mosenene said the construction will include a water treatment platform and 46 water tanks. He reassured that all villages around the project will benefit, adding that distribution of water will be done accordingly.

Mosenene said this project will avail clean water for 160 000 individuals, 132 churches, 84 schools and 51 facilities. The project will also hire 1500 to 2000 people. Through the same project, vulnerable people living around Marakabei will get toilets.

On behalf of the SFD, His Excellency Saudi Arabia Ambassador Sultan Al Alangari said the government of Saudi Arabia congratulates the launching of this significant project.

Alangari stated that since its inception, the SDF has been working on providing financial and technical support to developing countries, in order to contribute to the global and sustainable growth while boosting the economic growth in these countries.

By providing loans, SFD seeks to invest Saudi expertise and resources in enhancing the stability and prosperity, and to achieve real and tangible benefits for various people and societies, leading to securing better lives for people.
