Africa-Press – Lesotho. MUCKRAKER is appealing to psychologists and counsellors in Lesotho to volunteer for an important assignment. The task is a national service to help all DC supporters come to terms with their party’s thumping defeat in the election.
That they are still grieving is as clear as a goat’s behind. They are traumatised. You see it in their screams on social media and radio. They are nursing severe heartbreaks and pounding headaches.
There is a limp in their step. Pain in their voices and hearts. Muckraker initially thought they would recover a few days after the election but it’s now clear this post-power trauma will persist for much longer.
Prayers will not help. The one above probably has more pressing problems to solve than worrying about sore losers. And Mohlomi is too small. The counselling should start with Bro Mokhothu who appears to have now completely lost his marbles.
The signs and symptoms started after the election when he told his deflated followers that the party was still hoping to form a government. This was despite that the party had neither the numbers nor partners.
It sounded delusional but his naïve and mathematically challenged supporters cheered anyway. When that failed, as it was always bound to, the party tried to muddy the waters by getting an AD MP to contest for the Speaker of Parliament.
That too was a spectacular disaster because the numbers were just not there and the ruse was not that clever. Like a spoiled brat, Mokhothu bunked Uncle Sam’s inauguration.
Now inconsolable, he is throwing tantrums and moaning. Last week, he told parliament that the elections were flawed because some voters were turned away at the polling stations.
He didn’t say how many voters were affected and where. Just ‘many’. And just when we thought he had said enough, Mokhothu went for the jugular. “It is just that Basotho are becoming patient with each other, those mistakes were enough to burn this country,” he said.
Phew! The message was clear. The ‘mistakes’ in the October election, according to Bro Mokhuthu, are of the same magnitude as those in 1998. This was history being meticulously revised and facts being mutilated for political expediency.
The 1998 election was declared free and fair by observers. Even some of the politicians who joined in the chaos admitted that the elections were free and fair.
That madness had nothing to do with any technical issues but a bunch of sore losers furiously kicking the ball into the bushes after losing a game. But even if we assume that the 1998 election was flawed, Bro Mokhothu should be smart enough to see the irony in his words.
That allegation would mean Size Two, his political godfather, mentor and anointer, became prime minister after a flawed election. This is to say anything that followed after that election was tainted because of the sullied well from which it was sourced.
By Bro Mokhothu’s reason, Size Two was therefore an illegitimate prime minister. This is not science but logic. Common sense is not so common. The DC’s defeat had nothing to do with any flaws in the election.
It lost because it was outfought, outmanoeuvred, outwitted, outsmarted, outcompeted and outfoxed. Those words mean different things but they amount to the same. And they all start with ‘out’. ‘Out’ of the government is where the DC is.
