Africa-Press – Lesotho. Maseru – The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), in partnership with the Ministry of Tourism, Environment and Culture, is proposing to experiment on plastic waste management aimed at raising awareness on plastic pollution and its challenges.
As part of preparations, the ministry and UNDP introduced a workshop which is currently underway today at Avani Lesotho.
The stakeholders’ workshop is aimed at mapping the on-going initiatives and data on waste management in Lesotho.
The workshop is also meant to enable successful implementation of initiatives for waste management in the country.
In his opening remarks at the event, UNDP deputy resident representative Nessie Golakai explained that the upcoming awareness campaign is meant to ensure that Lesotho becomes a cleaner country and Basotho stop littering the streets.
She said it is high time Lesotho becomes a cleaner environment that can attract a lot of tourists.
Today’s workshop is also meant to enable collective understanding of the challenges of plastic waste and design solutions that will assist in the attainment of the desired results for environmental sustainability.
