Africa-Press – Lesotho. A feared famo music gangster, Bokang Soai, from Mafeteng briefly appeared before the Maseru Magistrate’s Court last week to answer a charge of murder.
Soai will appear again in court next Tuesday. The 33-year-old is accused of fatally shooting Chief Sekhobe Mojela of Sehlabeng, Matsieng in August 2018.
In a police report, Superintendent Retšelisitsoe Bokopane of Morija said the accused handed himself over to the police after he heard that they were looking for him.
He said Soai handed himself to them on May 22. He was in the company of a famo music artiste whose name was not disclosed. Supt Bokopane said their investigations revealed that Soai waylaid the deceased while driving his animals from the veld.
And he sprayed him with 15 bullets. He died on the spot. Police said the late Chief Mojela had allegedly accused Soai of cattle rustling, a charge he found offensive.
“The accused fled the scene after killing the deceased. He skipped the country to South Africa,” Supt Bokopane said. Supt Bokopane appealed to the public to stop dabbling in killings.
He said people should always try to resolve their differences amicably and should seek mediators such as the police and chiefs. “The killings will not bring solutions,” he said.
Supt Bokopane further appealed to all suspects to hand themselves over to the police so that they should account for their acts. He said perpetrators of violent crimes will be arrested and face the wrath of the law regardless of the time they spend on the run.
