Africa-Press – Lesotho. Botho University (BU) has yet again marked its footprints in the Kingdom of Lesotho by awarding qualifications to over 200 graduates on Friday. They have completed courses from the three faculties being the Faculty of Business
Accounting, Engineering and Technology and Health and Education. Delivering his speech during the graduations ceremony, BU Dean and Head of Maseru Campus Dr.
Abhishek Ranjan congratulated the graduates for making it through the learning boundaries that were set by the pandemic. He said the university did its best to accommodate and deliver
the best education amidst the Covid-19 struggles. “We, as the University, have stepped up and played our part in the nations’ response to the pandemic.
Through our External Relations department, we have contributed in the best possible way to combat the spread of this deadly virus and we continue to instill in our staff and
students the culture of safety by their continued observance of the global, national and institutional Covid-19 protocols,” he said. He insisted that the university
has indeed risen to the challenges of Covid-19. He said Botho University is a quality focused Institution with a mission to produce well-rounded, entrepreneurial,
and globally-employable graduates, and the graduates have been extraordinary people, saying they are here together to celebrate their hard earned achievements.
“While with us, you have enriched our community, you have made new friends, you
have explored new horizons and you have engaged in a whole range of activities. As you graduate from this University, you graduate as enriched persons, as
persons who have indeed tested themselves and we are very proud of you,” he said. He thanked the government for its support towards the growth of the institution and the financial support to BU students.
BU Vice Chancellor Dr. Sheela Raja Ram informed that this is the second major graduation event for their Maseru campus. “You are indeed special graduates as
this pandemic changed the way you study yet you coped, trust me this experience will make you stronger, resilient and more future-ready,” she said. She said in
these times of rapid change they need to stay ahead, building upon the foundation of their degrees. Ram added that there are numerous professional certifications that they can acquire, and these can
make them more attractive and valuable to employers. Ram said success will require a determination on their part to adopt lifelong learning to keep developing themselves ahead of others.
“I urge you to continue to learn to communicate effectively both in writing and speech, embrace the use of
technology and become more change-ready and societally inclined,” she said. She further said being able to operate using technology is important but more
important is their ability to connect with other people and to think critically. On behalf of BU 2020 graduates, Thuso Sehloho expressed gratitude to BU for standing with them from
the first day they set their foot at the institution to prepare for their future, to this joyous day worth celebrating. He said this four and half years’ journey was a moment
of change for a life time and the transformation that BU provided with quality education has ignited within them the confidence and assurance that they are
fit enough for the work industry, and others fit enough for entrepreneurship. He noted that despite the challenges of Covid-19, they made it to the end of the race.
“The world encountered lockdowns, but education by means of technology became the key to unlocking our potential. We realised
the significance of blended learning as we had switched to online classes. Ladies and gentlemen, you should know that Botho University had most of its
classrooms fitted with computers and a fully functioning E-library with thousands of resources and this made it easy for us to adapt to our new normal,” he said, adding that today they stand with pride of victory.
