LCS suffers loss to accident

Africa-PressLesotho. The Lesotho Correctional Service (LCS) staff was met with sad news owing to the ghastly car accident at Semonkong on Wednesday this week to what could be referred to as a “dead man’s

curve”. The LCS Public Relations Officer (PRO) Assistant Superintendent Pheko Ntobane in an interview with Informative Newspaper said the LCS’s female officers were involved in a fatal

accident which claimed two lives while en route to Maseru from Qacha’s Nek, where they had ferried a female inmate who was to be released through the enforcement

of Speedy Trial Act law. He said the institution’s SUV (Sport Utility Vehicle) car was transporting four officers and before they left Qacha’s Nek they gave a lift to a female traveller who was

travelling to Maseru, bringing the number of people on board to five. Assistant Superintendent Ntobane said the car lost control over the curve at Ha-Phahla and

while landing it the passenger was thrown out of the car resulting in her death. The LCS PRO said the driver also died at the scene; two officers sustained injuries and were treated

at the nearby clinic while one officer was admitted at the hospital in Roma. He said their car is written off. “We are in despair,” he said ruling out the possibility of negligence driving.

“We were within the scope of our work,” he stressed adding that they succumbed to the topography of that area. Assistant Superintendent said the families of the victims will be visited by the management of the institution. The story is developing.
