Africa-PressLesotho. The Director General of International Labour Organisation, Mr. Guy Ryder is on a three day official country visit to Lesotho, since Sunday. Yesterday, Ryder paid a courtesy call to His Majesty King Letsie III and the Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Relations Honorable Lesego Makgothi and his visit ends today.

According to the press release by ILO during his first visit to Lesotho, Ryder will also undertake high consultations meeting with the Minister of Development Planning, Prime Minister Dr.

Thomas Motsoahae Thabane as well as his deputy Mr. Monyane Moleleki. “Mr. Ryder will also pay a courtesy call to the speaker of the National Assembly Hon Sephiri Motanyane.

Bilateral consultations will be held at the representatives of the employee’s organization, representatives of all the labour federations as well as United Nations resident coordinator and United Nations country team in Lesotho.

“He will also take part in the signing ceremony of a memorandum of understanding on the new Decent Work Country Program (DWCP) for Lesotho to be implemented during the period 2018-2023,” it states.

It further states that the Lesotho’s DWCP is premised on three priorities namely, employment creation particularly the youth employment prospects: access to social protection and good governance of labour market.

It goes on to emphasize that DWCP is the ILOS’s vehicle for support to member countries based on the national development frameworks the national strategic development plan as well as within United Nations development assistance frameworks for Lesotho. Lesotho has been titular member of ILO governing body since June 2014, representing SADC member states.
