Africa-Press – Lesotho. Hon. Minister Lebona Lephema is representing Lesotho at the 75th session of the Executive Committee of the High Commissioner’s Programme (ExCom) held from 14 to 18 October 2024. A key event during this session is the launch of the Alliance on Statelessness, a significant initiative highlighting the importance of addressing statelessness, especially for developing countries like Lesotho. The meeting serves as a critical platform for discussing strategies to reduce statelessness and strengthen refugee protection globally.
On 14 October, Minister Lephema delivered a statement where he outlined the progress Lesotho has made in tackling issues related to statelessness and refugee protection. He appealed for international support in key areas where the country requires assistance to enhance its capacity, including legal frameworks and resources for vulnerable populations.
In addition to his participation in the main session, the Minister will engage in several bilateral meetings, including an important meeting with the Assistant High Commissioner for Operations, during which Lesotho will request further support for its initiatives aimed at improving refugee management and addressing statelessness within the country.
These discussions are expected to strengthen Lesotho’s efforts in protecting refugees and addressing challenges related to statelessness.
