Africa-Press – Lesotho. Former and long-time serving Member of Parliament (MP) Mr. Sello Maphalla says Mrs. Ts’epang Mosena’s loss of deputy leadership position has nothing to do with her seat in the National Assembly as the Deputy Speaker.
Mrs. Mosena lost against Mrs. ‘Makhojane Monyane with 516 votes against 869 over the weekend during the Movement for Economic Change (MEC) elective conference.
He said she was not appointed to the Deputy Speaker position due to her status in the party saying she was appointed by Members of Parliament (MPs) who have a term in Parliament.
“Mrs. Mosena losing her deputy leader position has nothing to do with the Parliament. This is even against the Standing Orders”, he added.
He emphasized that Mrs. Mosena will take her whole term.
On the other hand, Mr. Maphalla also explained that suspended from the party or not, Mr. Motlatsi Maqelepo will be a Member of Parliament (MP) for the rest of his term as long as he does not contravene the Electoral Act.
He added that on the Ministerial position matter, that solely rests on the Prime Minister.
Meanwhile Mr. Maqelepo has been suspended from the Basotho Action Party (BAP) for seven years.
