KING PRESENTS AWARDS AHEAD OF HIS BIRTHDAY

Africa-Press – Lesotho. King Letsie III presented medals to more than 400 civilians and disciplined forces for distinguished service at the ceremony held at the Royal Palace on Monday.

The ceremony, which marked the beginning of festivities to celebrate King’s birthday was graced by the presence of amongst others, Ministers, Heads of Diplomatic Missions in Lesotho, Senior Government Officials and families of those honoured.

At least 324 members of the Lesotho Defence Force (LDF) received the medals although only 75 were on parade as the rest will be given by LDF Commander at a later stage at Ratjomose Barracks.

In addition, 106 members of the Lesotho Mounted Police Service (LMPS) received the medals together with 51 members of Lesotho Correctional Service.

Moreover, six civilians received awards in different categories which include amongst others, Commander of the Most Loyal Order of Ramats’eatsana, Knight Commander of the Most Courteous Order of Lesotho and Knight Commander of the Most Dignified Order of Moshoeshoe.

In an interview with the Agency, the eldest daughter of the late Archbishop Thabang Matsoso who received an award for Commander of the Most Loyal Order of Ramats’eatsana expressed gratitude not only to the nation but the King for recognising the outstanding service of her late father, saying the award means a lot to the family, church and the nation.

On the other hand, Sub-Inspector Fusi Ntlobo from LMPS expressed appreciation for the medal, saying it signifies recognition of their dedication in their areas of responsibility, pledging to do their best in serving the nation wholeheartedly.

Ramats’eatsana awards were established by King Moshoeshoe II in 1972. They are usually presented by the King to the above mentioned groups of people ahead of his birthday, July 17.
