The Lesotho National Olympic Committee (LNOC) hosted an official send-off ceremony this week, where dignitaries, sports enthusiasts, and well-wishers gathered to bid farewell to the determined young athletes.

The prestigious send-off was attended by notable figures in the local sports fraternity, including Ms Mapesha Shale from the Ministry of Gender, Youth, Sports and Recreation, Mr Letsatsi Ntsibolane, President of LNOC, Mr Baba Malephane, President of the Lesotho Sport and Recreation Commission (LSRC), and Mr Sehloho Koloba, President of the Lesotho Boxing Association (LeBA).

Representing Lesotho at the African Schools Games is a compact but highly talented boxing team:

Mvokele Snyman, a promising young boxer in the 57kg male division, who recently made the nation proud by winning a silver medal at the 2025 AUSC Region 5 Games.

Both athletes have undergone intense training under the watchful eye of Coach Mr Daemane Lengola, a seasoned boxing coach known for building fighters with skill and heart.

The team will be guided and supported by Team Chef de Mission and Safeguarding Officer Ms Mabokang Mdandalaza, who has extensive experience in athlete welfare and delegation management.

The African Schools Games, a brand-new initiative by the African Union Sports Council in collaboration with the African Union and international partners, aims to develop sports at grassroots level, providing young athletes with a continental stage to showcase their talent. Lesotho’s participation signifies its dedication to nurturing future sports champions and promoting youth inclusion in global sports.

As the Games kick off, the entire nation stands in solidarity with Team Lesotho, wishing them victory, growth, and memorable experiences. Whether they return with medals or not, their courage and dedication already make them champions in the eyes of Basotho.
