Africa-Press – Lesotho. THE implementation of directives from the Council of Ministers,the ratification of protocols and other legal instruments, headlined the recently concluded Ordinary Meeting of the Southern African Development Community (SADC) Council of Ministers

he SADC’s Ordinary Meeting which reviewed and discussed various agendas aimed at enhancing and strengthening regional integration was concluded on August 12 in Madagascar’s capital, Antananarivo.

Among many other things, the meeting which served as preparations for the 45th SADC Summit of Heads of State and Government emphasized that regional unity is the only pathway for SADC countries to achieve its development agenda.

Tanzania’s delegation to the meeting was led by the Minister for Foreign Affairs and East African Cooperation, Ambassador Mahmoud Thabit Kombo.

Moreover, during the meeting the various leaders witnessed Madagascar assume the chairmanship from Zimbabwe.

The agendas discussed by the Ministers included, the status of contributions from member states, the implementation report by the SADC Secretariat’s Executive Secretary, Elias Magosi, which focused on economic, political, peace, and security matters; the implementation of directives from the Council of Ministers and decisions of the Heads of State and Government; the status of member states’ ratification of SADC protocols and other legal instruments; and agendas to be presented to the Summit of Heads of State and Government.

The summit continues today, with the Troika Meeting of Permanent Secretaries and the Ministerial Committee of the Organ on Politics, Defence, and Security, followed on August 16, 2025, by the Troika Summit of the Organ on Politics, Defence, and Security for Heads of State and Government.

Currently, Tanzania is the one chairing the Organ meetings on Politics, Defence, and Security.
