Africa-Press – Lesotho. An unusual setback has disrupted the Netherlands’ training camp ahead of their October fixtures. Memphis Depay, recalled by Ronald Koeman for the international window, failed to report on Monday after having his passport stolen in Brazil.
The incident, confirmed by the Dutch Football Association, delayed his arrival with the national team.
According to local media, the Oranje’s all-time top scorer is expected to rejoin the squad on Tuesday once replacement travel documents are issued. Coach Ronald Koeman expressed his frustration during a press conference, calling the situation “regrettable” both for the player and the team.
“It’s always better to start preparations with everyone present,” Koeman said, before acknowledging that “some things are simply beyond our control.”
