Africa-Press – Lesotho. Nigeria’s senior women’s basketball team, D’Tigress, have learned their opponents in the final qualifying phase for the FIBA Women’s Basketball World Cup 2026, as the draw was conducted on Monday, October 7, at the Patrick Baumann House of Basketball in Mies, Switzerland.
D’Tigress will compete in Lyon-Villeurbanne, France, one of the four host cities for the global qualifiers scheduled to hold from March 11 to 17, 2026.
The Nigerian ladies have been drawn alongside France, Germany, Korea, Colombia, and the Philippines in what promises to be a fiercely competitive group.
The tournament will serve as the last hurdle on the Road to Berlin, where 16 nations will battle for the prestigious FIBA Women’s Basketball World Cup trophy.
Germany’s Marie Guelich and former French captain Endy Miyem conducted the draw, which also had FIBA Secretary General Andreas Zagklis and officials from the participating national federations in attendance.
Other host cities for the qualifiers include Wuhan (China), San Juan (Puerto Rico), and Istanbul (Türkiye).
D’Tigress, four-time African champions, will be aiming to make another strong statement on the world stage as they chase a ticket to Berlin 2026, where the best women’s basketball teams will compete for global glory.
