LDF TO COMMENCE BASIC MILITARY TRAINING FOR 500 RECRUITS

Africa-Press – Lesotho. The Lesotho Defence Force (LDF) has announced that at least 500 new recruits will soon resume Basic Military Training, marking a crucial step in strengthening the country’s defence and security capacity.

According to Colonel (Col) Sakeng Lekola, the intake aims to fill up vacant positions left since 2019, following deaths, retirements, and resignations within the ranks.

Col. Lekola emphasized that the recruitment exercise is not a job creation initiative, but rather a necessary process to ensure that the LDF maintains its operational readiness and manpower balance.

He urged parents and guardians to cooperate by releasing their children on time and ensuring they adhere to all stipulated regulations and requirements set forth by the Defence Force.

He cautioned that failure to comply may cause unnecessary delays in the training schedule.

The Basic Military Training program, which is a foundational phase for all new recruits, focuses on discipline, physical fitness, and national security ethics. The training is also designed to instil a sense of patriotism, responsibility, and loyalty among the recruits as they prepare to serve the nation.

The resumption of training comes at a time when the LDF continues to play a critical role not only in defending Lesotho’s sovereignty but also in supporting peacekeeping missions, disaster response operations, and community assistance programmes both locally and regionally.
