Africa-Press – Lesotho. The Acting Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Relations, Mr. Matjato Moteane, on Tuesday received a courtesy call from Ms. Anna Mutavati, the United Nations (UN) Women Regional Director for East and Southern Africa, who is on an official visit to Lesotho from November 2 to 5, 2025.
According to a publication by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Relations the meeting focused on UN Women’s upcoming Strategic Note (2026–2029), which outlines the agency’s vision for accelerating gender equality, strengthening women’s leadership and promoting inclusive and sustainable development at both national and global levels.
Through its ongoing partnership with Lesotho, UN Women has supported a range of initiatives aimed at advancing women’s political participation, economic empowerment, and peace building, while intensifying efforts to eliminate gender-based violence and strengthen policy frameworks that safeguard women’s rights.
This engagement reaffirms the longstanding collaboration between Lesotho and UN Women in fostering gender-responsive development, aligning with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDG 5) on gender equality and SDG 16 on inclusive and peaceful societies.
