CAF Clears Ndidi for Super Eagles' Playoff Final

Africa-Press – Lesotho. The Super Eagles have received a major boost ahead of Sunday’s 2026 FIFA World Cup playoffs final as the Confederation of African Football (CAF) has confirmed that midfield anchor Wilfred Ndidi is eligible to play against the Democratic Republic of Congo.

The confirmation was announced on Saturday via the Super Eagles’ official X account, ending hours of uncertainty surrounding the Besiktas star’s availability.

According to the statement, CAF clarified that yellow cards accumulated during the World Cup qualifying series do not carry over into the playoff stage, except where a player is serving a confirmed suspension.

“CAF has confirmed that Wilfred Ndidi is eligible to feature for the Super Eagles in Sunday’s playoff clash against DR Congo,” the national team wrote.

“Cautions accumulated during the World Cup qualifiers do not carry over into the playoffs; only confirmed suspensions apply.”

Ndidi received a sixth-minute booking during Nigeria’s 4-1 win over Gabon in Thursday’s semi-final—his second caution of the qualifiers—raising concerns that he might be ruled out of the decisive encounter.

His availability now provides head coach Eric Chelle with a full-strength midfield option as the Super Eagles target a place at the 2026 FIFA World Cup in North America.

Nigeria will face DR Congo on Sunday in a high-stakes playoff final expected to draw massive attention from fans across the continent.
