Africa-Press – Lesotho. Lesotho Weight Lifting Federation (LWF) held an online technical officials training course for its players which ran for a period of 4 days (Friday to Monday).
The training was to assist and improve the association’s coaching and refereeing personnel. According to LWF Public Relations Officer (PRO) Anna Shale, the two
sporting positions are expected to train the local athletes, and the training is a move to limit out-sourcing of desired coaches and referees during the key competitions
but to up-skill and nurture local talent. “The association is in need of referees who will be responsible for judging throughout the games, keeping the records and
publicizing the results. We also need coaches who will address the players during the competitions, time keepers and the loaders who will be responsible
for loading the bars,” Shale stated. She showed that the trainees are expected to be well trained and to exactly know their work boundaries during the competitions even at times of trainings, which
will be beneficial for them to gain more practice. She said the trained technical officials are 80 in number and this is the first time LWF held this kind of course since its
arrival in the country. “The Federation had only one expert who was trained in South Africa (SA), therefore it came to our recognition that there is a need to
hold trainings for athletes as the country lacks experienced officials,” she enlighten. She further noted that LWF is a normal sport code which accommodates men, women,
boys and girls athletes from the age of 6 and was established more than 10 years ago within the country. “Among the attainments that we have had as an association so far, we are getting
broader opportunities to attend more competitions both nationally and internationally where we have also acquired Basotho nationals titleholders. Above
all, an association is proud to have a player who has been awarded a sponsorship with the help of the federation to carry on with the games,” she revealed.
Shale encouraged the future weight lifting athletes and its followers not to hesitate to fully participate in sports since, “sport is one of the most essential health boosters that has been identified to be helpful in transforming people’s wellbeing”.
