Africa-Press – Lesotho. The late former Minister of Police, Mr. Lepota Sekola was honoured with an official funeral service, with his remains having rested at Khutsong, Lesotho Defence Force (LDF) on Friday.
Giving condolences on behalf of the King, the Principal Chief of Matsieng, Bereng Seeiso said death, though painful, is the only route to connect with God, Maker of people’s lives.
He urged Sekola family and others related to seek understanding from God, especially at this fragile time when they are mourning the death of the former Minister that coincides with that of his younger brother.
He indicated that having heard that the deceased met his death due to stopping taking hypertension medication, thus suffering depression and stroke, the need for men to consistently seek medical attention so as to prevent unnecessary deaths becomes more vital.
He added that some if not many men are known for lack of interest to seek medical attention, urging them to take Mr. Sekola’s death as a sign that they must not fear to seek medical help.
In the same note, the Prime Minister, Mr. Ntsokoane Matekane indicated that he had known Mr. Sekola as a business man at the time he was serving under the past regime. “He has been a good person who had a desire to assist and support other people,” he said.
Similarly, the Deputy Speaker in the National Assembly Ts’epang Ts’ita- Mosena said being a leader does not mean one has no worries, thus challenging all to go and inquire about their health status.
She alluded that the National Assembly has been afforded an opportunity to work with the deceased at the time he served as a Member of Parliament under Makhaleng Constituency, where he did all he could to acquire knowledge.
The service commenced with a word of prayer by LDF Chaplaincy. The deceased is reported to have met his untimely death due to depression and stroke after stopping taking his hypertension medication as according to doctor’s report given to family, Mr. Keketso Sekola said this when giving an account of his illness that led to his death.
Born on September 28,1964 at Makhalaneng, Liphakoeng, he is the second child of the late Mr. Mirrod and Mrs. ‘Mafako Sekola.
He attended schools at Seroeng Primary and St. John Tlali Secondary.
Within LDF, he has worked under several departments that include H Coy, Workshop, Transport and VIP Protection Battalion.
After starting LDF training in 1983, he has held the following positions, Private, Corporal and Sergeant, thus taking early retirement in September 2003.
