Africa-Press – Lesotho. The Ministry of Agriculture Food Security and Nutrition with the support of the Food and Agricultural Organisation FAO held a 3-day validation workshop on Fisheries and Aquaculture policy and strategy in Maseru on Wednesday.
Speaking at this event, the Minister of Mr. Thabo Mofosi said for many years the fisheries industry played only a marginal role in the national economy as history shows that fisheries in Lesotho were not developed as part of the agricultural agenda but rather to entertain colonial officials who viewed Lesotho’s rivers as suitable for sport fishing.
He indicated that with the right coordination and diversification of incentives the country can have a fully developed fisheries industry.
He also urged for the proper implementation and coordination of policies and strategies aimed at improving fisheries and aquaculture in Lesotho.
