Africa-Press – Lesotho. Grey clouds hung low over the sacred hills of Thaba Bosiu as rain poured relentlessly, soaking the red earth that guards the historic fortress of King Moshoeshoe I.

Yet, beneath umbrellas, raincoats and dripping blankets, the spirit of LETOFE burned brighter than the storm.

From early afternoon, festival-goers streamed into the foothills, their laughter cutting through the cold rain, their boots splashing rhythmically in muddy pathways. Colourful tents fluttered in the wind, while the smell of wet soil mixed with sizzling street food, creating a uniquely Basotho festival atmosphere.

As the first notes of music echoed against the ancient rocks, cheers erupted, rising like defiance against the weather. Fans danced freely, some barefoot, others wrapped in traditional blankets, their faces glowing with joy and determination.

The rain became part of the rhythm—drumming on stages, washing over flags, and turning the festival grounds into a living canvas of movement and sound.

Under the shadow of Moshoeshoe I’s fortress, LETOFE transformed into more than a music festival. It became a powerful meeting of past and present where heritage stood firm, and culture refused to be silenced by the elements.

In the pouring rain, the crowd proved that no storm could dampen the Basotho love for music, unity and celebration.
