Africa-Press – Lesotho. The reigning champions of SAFA Sedibeng Inter-club tournament Berea Ladies F.C. have on Monday kick started their six days training camp ahead of such an off season break tournament scheduled to start on January 05 to end on 09 at Everton North, Gauteng Province.
Berea Ladies Chairman Mr. Lekhooa Thabaneng confirmed the development during an interview with the Agency on Monday.
Mr. Thabaneng highlighted that the six days training camp is set to run into two phases such as training at local level and in South Africa ahead of their tough encounter where they are going to face 15 teams.
“The three days local training camp is meant to solidify the team after the festive season break, while other three days are aimed to prepare the players to acclimatize with the artificial turf in South Africa”, he explained.
He said in terms of logistics, everything is in order and the major task currently lays upon the shoulders of the coach and players to execute their plans and defend their title.
“We mean business with such an inter-club tournament, hence the move to have invested a lot of resources in preparing the team and we need full commitment of players”, he said.
He further said negotiations are at an advanced stage of signing six new players in order to reinforce the squad after parting ways with six players for various reasons such as two who are undergoing military training, while others are going to pursue their studies.
Berea Ladies F.C. Chairman stressed that some of the new signees are likely to be featured in such tournaments as to test their capability and to give them an exposure of playing at an international level.
Reflecting on the current season team’s performance whereby they are currently cruising at third position of Lesotho Women Super League, Mr. Thabaneng remains optimistic that they are still going to defend their championship and emerge victorious at the end of the tournament.
“As compared to other years, currently we have a team of players who are thirsty for scoring goals, while the defensive line is solid”, he said.
Meanwhile, Berea Ladies is expected to depart on Thursday this week, while the games will kick start on Monday next week.
In the domestic league of Lesotho Women’s Super League, LDF Ladies F.C. still hold the pole position with 19 points, followed by Kick4Life Women F.C with 17 points and Berea Ladies F.C on third position with 14 points, while Villa Ladies F.C. is at the bottom of the league with only a point recorded so far.
