AFCON 2025: Bertrand Traoré Sanctioned for Referee Remarks

Africa-Press – Lesotho. Bertrand Traoré’s post-match outburst has drawn swift consequences. Following Burkina Faso’s 1-0 defeat to Algeria in the second round of the Africa Cup of Nations, the former Lyon winger openly criticized the refereeing.

The player has accused officials of “ruining the match” and claiming he was pushed by the referee after the final whistle. While acknowledging Algeria’s victory on the pitch, Traoré said such decisions “spoil the competition.”

CAF responded by fining the Burkina Faso international $10,000 for “offensive remarks.” No sporting sanction was imposed, meaning Traoré remains available for Burkina Faso’s Round of 16 fixture. The player has since issued an apology to CAF, bringing the incident to a close.
