Africa-Press – Lesotho. Former Prime Minister (PM), Deputy Ministers (DPMs) of Lesotho, their spouses and representative of Lesotho’s development partners received AstraZeneca vaccine

jabs on Thursday. When addressing the media, the Ministry of Health (MoH) Principal Secretary (PS) Khothatso Tšooana stated that the development partners’ representatives to be

vaccinated are the European Union (EU) Ambassador to Lesotho Dr. Christian Manahl, World Health Organization (WHO) Country Representative Dr. Richard Banda and the United Nations International Children’s Emergency Fund (UNICEF)

Representative Anurita Bains. “These representatives worked very hard to ensure that Lesotho receives the vaccine,” he added. EU Ambassador to Lesotho Manahl said they have done their best to mitigate the

consequences of the pandemic. He said the vaccine roll out will continue and all the healthcare workers and other front liners will be vaccinated. “I would

also like to thank the government of Lesotho for inviting us here today to be vaccinated,” he said. Manahl further said they will take the vaccine to prove

to the public that they have trust in the vaccine. He said this is because a number of countries have launched complains against AstraZeneca vaccine, but

people need to trust the authority that the vaccine is effective. Manahl emphasized that they need to do whatever they can collectively to contain the

pandemic and the vaccine that is available now in Lesotho is the solution. He noted that the vaccine is an offer as nobody is forced to take it, however he

hopes everyone will agree to be vaccinated. He encouraged everybody to continue to take necessary measures to fight against the virus and to prevent further

infections. Meanwhile the Minister of Health Hon. Semano Sekatle thanked the former PMs and DPMs for gracing them with their presence to receive the vaccine.

“This is a sign of contribution in the journey to fight the pandemic,” he said. He said King

Letsie III, his family members, Prime Minister Dr. Moeketsi Majoro and other leaders got vaccinated and so far none of them have had complications because

of the vaccine. Former PM Dr. Pakalitha Mosisili commended the government for a job well done by bringing the vaccine into the country. He further stated that His Majesty King Letsie III and his family did a commendable

job in leading the Covid-19 vaccination. “I am a victim of this virus because I spent last year December being quarantined though I was not sick but only infected

by it,” he said. He encouraged Basotho to avoid fooling around with health matters on social media network especially those that concern this virus. Mosisili said the government has worked very hard to get the vaccine and people need to accept it and get vaccinated.
