Africa-Press – Lesotho. To strengthen strategic partnership between Lesotho and China, Foreign Minister of the People’s Republic of China, Wang Yi will visit Lesotho before the end of this week.
Wang Yi aged 73 will be in Lesotho following an invitation of the Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Relations, Mr. Lejone Mpotjoane and it is expected that upon arrival at the Moshoeshoe I International Airport, he will be welcomed afterwards hold talks with Minister Mpotjoane. Other official activities will be announced at the later stage.
Information from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Lesotho shows that the visit is also part of a weeklong visit to African Countries inclusive of Somalia, Ethiopia, Tanzania and Lesotho, marking the 36th sequential year that Africa selected for Chinese Foreign Minister’s visit.
Over and above that, the two countries are reported to have long standing relations emanating from amongst others friendly cooperative hence strengthening their political mutual trust, maintaining collaboration in international affairs continuously.
Exchanges and cooperation in other fields were also recorded when in 2018, the two signed the Implementation Programme for the Years 2019 to 2022 of the Agreement of the Cultural Cooperation Between the Government of the People’s Republic of China and Lesotho.
Furthermore, Prime Minister Mr. Ntsokoane Matekane also participated and exchanged messages respectively in celebration of the 30th anniversary of the resumption of diplomatic relations between the two countries.
In October 2023, the Minister of Public Works and Transport Mr. Matjato Moteane attended the Third Belt and Road Forum for International Cooperation in China. In the same year Minister of Agriculture, Mr. Thabo Mofosi attended the Second Forum on China-Africa Cooperation in Agriculture in China.
In February 2024, Minister of Information in her capacity as RFP Secretary General, Ms. Nthati Moorosi led the RFP delegation to visit China, thus establishing official party-to-party relations with CPC otherwise Communist Party of China.
In April 2024, Deputy Prime Minister Justice Nthomemeng Majara and Minister of Health Mr. Selibe Mochobroane visited Hubei Province. In the same year, Minister of Finance Dr. Retsélisitsoe Matlanyane also showed up at the Second High-Level Conference of the Forum on Global Action for Shared Development in China.
The two countries are also supporting each other as United Nations members.
China has supported Lesotho through construction of State Library, Maseru district hospital and ‘Manthabiseng Convention Centre to mention a few.
