The Ministry of Agriculture, Food Security and Nutrition in Berea, through the Teyateyaneng Resource Centre, will conduct a series of food preservation training for Nutrition Clubs under the Nts’ang Sub-Catchment at Ha-Boose from February to March.

Teyateyaneng Resource Centre Area Technical Officer for Nutrition, Ms. Kolitsoe Ramakau, confirmed the development in an interview with Lesotho News Agency (LENA) on Monday. She said the training will be implemented with support from the Regeneration of Landscapes and Livelihoods (ROLL) project.

Ms. Ramakau explained that it has been observed that local farmers produce vegetables in abundance, but a significant amount goes to waste due to low demand. She said this situation prompted the initiative to capacitate Nutrition Clubs with food preservation skills that can be applied sustainably in the long term.

She noted that key areas to be covered during the training include food preservation methods such as drying, bottling and fermentation, as well as their importance to human health.

Ms. Ramakau further stated that participants will be equipped with skills in hygiene, proper storage, packaging and labelling. She emphasized that labelling is essential to ensure consumers are informed about the contents of preserved foods, including manufacturing and expiry dates…
