Berea, Feb 04 — The initiation school committee established under Ha-Majara Principal Chief’s office will on Sunday stage their annual peer review meeting at Mali-a-batho, Ha-Majara.
This was revealed by the Chairperson Ha-Majara initiation school committee, Mr. Moqasane Moqasane when addressing Ha-Majara Area Chiefs during their monthly meeting.
Mr. Moqasane said all the initiation schools have closed so far and as a result the purpose of the meeting is to review the achievements recorded and challenges made during the entire duration of initiation schools around their places.
He emphasized that initiation school is the only cultural issue which Basotho are proud though it has come to their attention that they are surrounded by bad issues which tarnish their image.
Mr. Moqasane said there are growing concerns that some initiation schools enrolled under age children, while other initiates are reported to portray an unacceptable behaviour towards the society upon completing their tenure at the initiation schools.
He pointed out that those are among other issues that they are going to scrutinize and deal with accordingly those who are operating without following their regulations, adding that people supposed to partially know about the initiation school as part of Basotho.
“Collective responsibilities of parents, initiation school owners and Area chiefs are vital on monitoring the behavioural change of the initiate and bringing them to order where the need might arise,” he explained.
Mr. Moqasane stressed the importance of education and religious activities after the initiation schools, citing that parents have a right to alert them if their children refuse to return back to school.
On same note, Marabeng Area Chief Seeiso Majara expressed a concern of initiates who conducts some of their activities like collecting fire wood near the villages, highlighting that restrict community members a freedom of movement. . .
