Maseru, Feb. 11 — Although Water and Sewage Company (WASCO) is yet to reveal the amount of money collected from owing customers during the ongoing disconnection campaign, the latter has been a success in Maseru.
This was said by WASCO Public Relations Officer, Mr. Bahlakoana Lehasa in an interview with the Agency, saying the amount collected will be disclosed when the campaign has been completed and owed bills consolidated in all centres.
He indicated that the campaign has been completed in Maseru and commenced in Roma and Morija on Wednesday (today), clarifying that disconnections are affecting those who have not paid bills for over 60 days regardless of the amount of money owed.
Meanwhile, WASCO Acting Public Relations Manager Mr. Rethabile Lefantsantsa earlier clarified that the company is disconnecting all owing customers, whether churches, individuals, organisations or government entities, indicating that such customers are expected to pay or contact WASCO credit section to negotiate a plan for settling their debts.
He also indicated that failure for customers to pay bills affects the company’s operations as it fails to buy and repair equipment due to financial constraints thus being unable to complete work on time, reminding that those who have been disconnected will have to pay the reconnection fee.
WASCO has over 92,000 customers which is 60 percent of the total urban population.
Safe drinking water is supplied through postpaid, pre-paid and public standpipe connections.
WASCO was established with the objective to produce and distribute potable water and provide sanitation services to valued customers in an environmentally friendly manner.
