Africa-Press – Lesotho. The United Nations Children’s Fund hosted a donation event at the Juvenile Training Centre (JCT) in Maseru on Wednesday, aimed at supporting the reintegration of children in conflict with the law and helping them rebuild their lives after release.

Speaking at the event, Minister of Law and Justice, Mr. Richard Ramoeletsi, extended sincere appreciation to UNICEF for its unwavering support since June 2025, which has gone beyond the organisation’s original work plan. He said this demonstrates a deep commitment to ensuring that no child is left behind and that every young person in Lesotho is given a fair opportunity to succeed.

Mr. Ramoeletsi stated that the longstanding partnership with UNICEF continues to play a vital role in making this vision a reality. He added that both parties reaffirm their shared commitment to ensuring that every child in Lesotho fully and equally enjoys their rights. He noted that the collaboration is a powerful example of what can be achieved when institutions work together with a common purpose.

“This reintegration is not about ignoring past mistakes, but about accountability, learning, and growth. It is about equipping young people with the tools to make better choices and take responsibility for their future. Justice for children lies not only in correction, but also in rehabilitation and opportunity,” he said.

Chief of Correctional Services, Mr. Matingoe Phamotse, emphasized that children who come into conflict with the law should be given opportunities to reform rather than being judged by their past. He said the role of correctional services extends beyond custody to include rehabilitation, social integration, and preparing young people to return to their communities as responsible and productive citizens.
