Africa-Press – Lesotho. Lesotho Cricket Association (LCA) will send Men’s Cricket National Team to the International Cricket Council (ICC) Men’s T20 World Cup Africa Qualifier Group A, which is to be hosted in Rwanda at Gahanga Cricket Stadium.
The tournament is scheduled to start from October 14th to 23rd 2021. Yesterday, LCA Media Liaison Officer Clifford Molefe revealed to Informative Sport that this tournament is not held annually, noting that; “It is determined by the state of ICC calendar in a particular year.
He informed that Men’s Cricket National Team attended this tournament several times, saying their last appearance was in 2018. He added that the team is sponsored by ICC with accommodation, transport and other necessities for participation.
Molefe said the preparations for the tournament are underway, therefore 20 provisional players are carrying on with the training sessions during weekends at Lesotho High School.
“Out of this number, the final team of 14 players will be selected to participate in the tournament as per the ICC requirements.
The expected team has to include 14 players, Head-Coach Mahloane Theko and the Team Manager Bongane Mosiuoa,” Molefe explained
He said the National Men’s Team will compete in Group A, against six countries namely; Rwanda, ESwatini, Uganda, Malawi, Ghana and Seychelles.
Molefe added that there is also an ICC Men’s T20 Sub Regional World Cup Qualifier Group B that is scheduled for October 31st to November 8th. Asked about what the objective of the cricket governing body are in the country, Molefe stated that it is looking forward to provide excellent service and develop the standard of cricket players, groom the upcoming players for them to be coaches and administrators.
He further said the association is also intended to deliver outstanding and remarkable events while the aim of ICC is to observe and ensure that all the mentioned sectors increase in numbers and the programs evolve.
“If the number of cricket affiliates keeps on increasing nationally, that means growth will also reflect in Africa and to the world at large,” Molefe noted.
