Africa-Press – Lesotho. Following his prestigious award for the Best Africa Leading Entrepreneur by Forbes Magazine, Sam Matekane called a press conference to share his delight over the international
recognition, which he said is a sign of pride for the entire Basotho nation. Matekane Group of Companies (MGC) Chief Executive Officer (CEO) said it is with honour and pride
that he has been given hope upon the Basotho nation. Matekane said that he is humbled by the recognition he received as the Best Africa Leading Entrepreneur of
the year. He continued that it gives him great pleasure to have been chosen to represent Lesotho and Basotho for the continental and global award nomination, by the
Foreign Investment Network (FIN) in partnership with Forbes. He emphasized that he would not have achieved this honour had it not been for Basotho’s support
over the years. Matekane indicated that his heart is filled with gratitude and an overwhelming joy. “I would like us to embrace this award as the nation.
To see it as an ignition that will propel us to achieve more. Amidst the pandemic and the economic recession, we continue to push through. We need to remain strong and resilient as we target more milestones
as Basotho and as Africans. This award is given to African entrepreneurs who have performed excellently throughout the years. I am humbled for being one of
those whose work is recognized as outstanding. I also realize the responsibility that comes with this award. I am aware that I have to serve my nation as an agent of change in the business sector.
I have certain aspirations, which I firmly believe are achievable if people can work together,” expressed Matekane. Also the Chairperson of Sesiu sa letšoele le beta Poho; an
initiative by local companies that are mandated to aid the country in the fight against Covid-19 pandemic, especially vaccine procurement, Matekane further
said that this award means the African continent as a whole has to review its state of independence, specifically referring to things like procuring vaccines
to counter the health crisis. He indicated that it is high time for Africa to work together in the fight against Covid-19 and other diseases by producing
their own vaccines. Also, he said that the award is a wakeup call for Africa to come up with innovations to develop Africa with their resources. MGC Head of Corporate
Communications and Marketing ‘Mamotake Matekane thanked the media for their overwhelming support and said she hopes the relationships will be prolonged.
‘Mamotake revealed that Sam Matekane foundation will be launched and will work
on Sam Matekane’s personal passions and developing communities. She further exposed that this project will also focus on developing other millionaires like the Best Africa Leading Entrepreneur Award winner – Sam Matekane.
