Africa-Press – Lesotho. The Best Media Association of South Africa (MISA) Lesotho, celebrated World Press Freedom Day by awarding prizes to the Lesotho Police Spokesperson Senior Superintendent Mpiti Mopeli and former Tsepong Hospital Specialist Ms’ Mathapelo Thahane on Friday.
This day is celebrated annually on 03 May in honor of the importance of media freedom around the world. The Chairperson of MISA Lesotho, Hon. he said they planned to do this honor in the form of gifts.
“It has been very difficult to identify the right candidates for the awards and we have convened a national government committee with the media to give advice on the nomination of candidates.
We have provided a list of 15 people who we have asked to be nominated when we come out with my father Mpiti Mopeli and ‘mother’ Mathapelo Thahane, ”he said.
Tsoana said there were several factors involved in their selection, adding that the first issue was whether the person was always available when the media needed him, whether his doors were always open and whether. is a person who knows how to talk to people. “We have found that both winners have these qualities,” he said.
He also noted that Mopeli provides weekly police reports to keep the public informed of national issues, saying Thahane has also taken the lead in shutting down the media and responding to them whenever there is a matter.

Mopeli praised the police service as a whole and pointed out that his colleagues were very supportive of him. He explained that the award was no longer his own but the life of the entire Lesotho police.
He said his ambition was to serve the Basotho people well and make them feel comfortable when they confronted their local police. He wished the Basotho people well in their minds and hearts and would be proud of their police presence.
Mopeli appealed to MISA Lesotho to provide the media with identity documents that they can identify with the media. Both have been awarded letters of appreciation for good work.
