QUEEN DONATES PPE TO NACOSEC

Her Majesty Queen ‘Masenate Mohato Seeiso has handed over Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) to National COVID-19 Secretariat (NACOSEC) during an official launch of OBE Lesotho at The Royal Palace on Wednesday.

Speaking at this event the Queen thanked OBE Lesotho for the PPE showing that these commodities came at the right time when Lesotho and the whole world is facing a rough time of COVID-19 pandemic.

“COVID-19 pandemic brought many challenges and affected everyone”, She commented.

Among the challenges brought about by the pandemic include; loss of jobs, less food production worldwide and burdened health systems which were already ailing, adding that most health centres could not cope due to lack of oxygen, the Queen said.

She applauded OBE Lesotho, Lesotho Millennium Development Agency (LMDA) and National COVID-19 Secretariat (NACOSEC) for their collaboration in acquiring 62 cylinders of oxygen which were distributed to Teya-Teyaneng and Mafeteng hospitals in January 2021.

She further said OBE Lesotho, LMDA and other volunteers raised funds that the country to generate its own oxygen.

Further, on behalf of the Queen’s National Trust Fund, Her Majesty handed over 70 000 disposable face masks, ten (25 litres) of sanitizer to NACOSEC and pleaded with NACOSEC to distribute them to the 10 districts of Lesotho so that they may reach health centers and villages.

Speaking on behalf of OBE Lesotho, retired Chief Justice, Justice Nthomeng Majara said OBE Lesotho was formed under the foundation of Queen’s National Trust fund and its purpose is to help less fortunate people with among others payment of fees for high school students and those at higher institutions, school uniform, stationery and other needs.

In the beginning of the year 2021 Lesotho’s infection rate was at 47% and has since dropped to 1%
