Africa-Press – Lesotho. <\/strong><\/span>Mekaling orphaned children who had been struggling to get national identity documents due to family members who were holding captive their parents\u2019 documents and not<\/p>\n

willing to help them, were finally handed their documents by the Ministry of Home Affairs last Friday. Speaking at the event, Seaka Area Chief Relebohile Lerotholi said the children could not<\/p>\n

have the Birth Certificates because their parents have passed on and the other family members are in possession of the documents that could help these<\/p>\n

children but they were not willing to release them. Holy Cross Primary School Teacher Mat\u0161eliso Mathetsa revealed that the issue of family members taking documents after the death of parents is a<\/p>\n

challenge in their area. Mathetsa indicated that some students cannot further their studies after Grade 7 because they have no identity documents to help<\/p>\n

them attain scholarships and get through high schools. She expressed delight to the Ministry of Home Affairs over the students who were awarded the national<\/p>\n

documents. Mekaling Community Councillor T\u0161eliso Mvelase pointed out that many people do not have national identity documents and for those working in South Africa, they<\/p>\n

end up crossing illegally and some dying in the process as the rivers are flooding. The Ministry of Home Affairs Principal Secretary Tumelo Raboletsi announced that the ministry has<\/p>\n

embarked on the journey of bringing services closer to the communities through outreaches by issuing national identity documents, marking livestock and in the process raise awareness about Human Trafficking.<\/p>\n
