Africa-Press – Lesotho. <\/strong><\/span>Following the hailstorm disaster that left Seboshe Hospital without roofing and machinery last September, Vodacom Lesotho Foundation together with Lesotho Defence Force (LDF)<\/p>\n

salvaged the Hospital\u2019s services by among other things handing over a cheque worth M 1 304 718.00 on Tuesday at the health facility in Khukhune . Speaking at the event, Seboche<\/p>\n

Hospital Administrator Sr. Vitalina Doti (SCO) disclosed that their area experienced heavy hailstorm disaster on September 30th last year, which blew away the hospital roofing which had been installed since the<\/p>\n

inception of the facility in 1962. This led to water flowing into the patients wards, cutting off electricity supply and damaging health equipment and<\/p>\n

computers. Sr. Doti further revealed that due to the calamity, the patients were transferred to Butha-Buthe and Motebang Hospitals, and that since then, the facility halted in-patients services and is<\/p>\n

only helping out-patients up to date. She said they then knocked on the doors of Vodacom Lesotho (VCL) Foundation seeking help to resuscitate the hospital<\/p>\n

services, which heard their plea. VCL Corporate Affairs Executive Head T\u0161epo Ntaopane said when VCL Foundation was founded, it was mandated to be the giving arm of Vodacom Lesotho that invests in critical areas of development, in<\/p>\n

line with the Government of Lesotho\u2019s National Strategic Development Plan (NSDP) by supporting sustainable initiatives that drive social change, improve<\/p>\n

people\u2019s lives and solve pressing social needs. Ntaopane said they reached out to LDF as their usual partner. He indicated that VCL Foundation is providing financial<\/p>\n

assistance to Seboche Hospital while LDF will be helping with the construction. He further urged other companies that are doing business in the country to give<\/p>\n

back to the communities. In addition, LDF Commander Lieutenant General Mojalefa Letsoela pointed out that one of the pillars of LDF is to offer help to the civil authority, saying by helping the health facility, they<\/p>\n

are fulfilling that mandate. He said LDF will deploy soldiers to work at the area for as long as the construction will last. Lieutenant General Letsoela<\/p>\n

insisted that should a challenge arise for Seboche Hospital to deliver patients through helicopters, they are more than willing to help the facility in order<\/p>\n

to save lives. On behalf of the Sisters of Charity of Ottawa who run Seboche Hospital, Provincial Animator Sr. Clementine Molefe expressed gratitude to VCL and LDF.<\/p>\n

Sr. Molefe said after the hailstorm incident, they were devastated, she hastened to acknowledge that the Lord answered their prayers through their humanitarian initiative.<\/p>\n

She stressed that they have learned that climate Change is real and the country is faced with the effects which include terrible hailstorms and heavy rains.<\/p>\n

In a nutshell, Sr. Molefe spoke out that another challenge faced by the facility is of a dilapidated road and urged those responsible to help. She said last year one pregnant woman did not make it to the hospital on time and lost her life and the baby on the way due to the conditions of the road.<\/p>\n
