Africa-Press – Lesotho. <\/strong><\/span>The Ministry of Water is preparing to review the country\u2019s performance relating to water affairs in light of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) \u2013 the work is planned to be carried out by the Water Commission.<\/p>\n

This within the Integrated Water Resource Management (IWRM), process which promotes the coordinated development and management of water resources in order to maximise economic and social welfare in an equitable manner and without compromising the sustainability of vital ecosystems.<\/p>\n

Every three years the United Nations support programme, through UNEP, sends a self assessment survey on the degree of IWRM implementation to member states.<\/p>\n

The last call to report on SDG targets was made in 2017 and a new call for reporting made in 2020; the call takes the form of a survey covering 33 questions grouped into four sections.<\/p>\n

Water partnership Country Chairman, Levi Nteko, said compared to the 2017 results from the UN on Lesotho\u2019s implementation there has been a slide improvement.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe are confident that beginning from now our country will be better,\u201d Nteko said.<\/p>\n

\u201cAfter this workshop we will continue data collection through interviews through engaged enumerators, while the validation workshop will be held mid-September this year with the report to be submitted by the end of the same month,\u201d said \u2018Mahlalele Setlhako, the national focal point. The four sections of the survey will be an Enabling Environment, Institutions and Participation, Management Instruments and Financing.<\/p>\n
