Africa-Press – Lesotho. <\/strong><\/span>This year\u2019s highly anticipated Moshoeshoe Walk comes with a number of humanitarian initiatives from which various communities will benefit. As disclosed by Moshoeshoe Walk Founder and Marketing Director Thabo Maretlane,<\/p>\n

the walk will leave traces of improvements such as planting trees, donating blankets and a church building. The 15th edition will start from Menkhoaneng on March 9 and end at<\/p>\n

Thaba-Bosiu on the 12th. He said the plan is to plant 2 000 indigenous trees such as Menkhoane and Cheche at Menkhoaneng. For Lipetu community, 2 000 forest trees will be planted as a provision for<\/p>\n

wood during funerals, \u201cWe have learnt that because of shortage of wood, people end up using natural trees which are essential for soil conservation,\u201d he said,<\/p>\n

adding that by the end of the walk, a total of 10 000 trees will be planted in different locations. Maretlane said on the March 10 they will pass by Thaba-Phat\u0161oa Primary School, where 40<\/p>\n

blankets will be donated to Community Policing, the development which will ease their work during cold seasons. There will be an official opening of a church at Ha \u2018Makhoroana, this church was<\/p>\n

built as part of the social responsibility. The final batch of trees will be planted at Thaba-Bosiu on March 21. Maretlane invited the local media to cover and air the walk for the nation to jointly<\/p>\n

celebrate the history of Lesotho. He disappointedly said the event has to date been mostly chanted by South African media as opposed to the local media.<\/p>\n

\u201cThrough events like Moshoeshoe Walk, Basotho have the good opportunity to sell the country to the world, and this is only<\/p>\n

possible through the media,\u201d he said, adding that this will not only put the country on the map but also call in investors. For his part, Lesotho Tourism Development Corporation (LTDC) Public Relations<\/p>\n

Manager \u2019Manchafalo Mot\u0161oeneng said this walk is one of the events that Basotho has to be proud of as it honors the late King Moshoeshoe I. She added that this<\/p>\n

is a major walk in the tourism sector as it helps them to improve tourism in the country. \u201cThis year will see the 15th walk since it was introduced in 2007.<\/p>\n

We are also working towards the big celebration which will be in 2024, where we will be celebrating 200 years of history for King Moshoeshoe I\u2019s walked from Menkhoaneng to Thaba-Bosiu,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n
