Africa-Press – Lesotho. <\/strong><\/span>Limkokwing University of Creative Technology (LUCT) through the Heal the World Foundation donated 20 wheelchairs to Ithuseng Vocational and Rehabilitation Centre which is under the leadership of the Ministry of Social Development.<\/p>\n

The donation comes from Heal the world Foundation which is an initiative that was founded by President Tan Sri Dato\u2019 Sri Paduka Limkokwing, who is also the founder of LUCT.<\/p>\n

Speaking at the handover ceremony, LUCT Registrar Moroka Hoohlo said he is thrilled to hand over the wheelchairs to the Ministry of Social Development on behalf of President Limkokwing.<\/p>\n

He further said through this foundation, the university instills upon its staff and students, eagerness to care for the less privileged or orphaned and vulnerable children.<\/p>\n

Hoohlo said as the university, it is their mission to assist the government of Lesotho with improving its human capital and achieving its Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) especially in education and enriching the lives of Basotho.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe have therefore collaborated with the Ministry of Social Development to donate the 20 wheelchairs to the most vulnerable community of Lesotho,\u201d he said. He indicated that these wheelchairs are meant to improve the livelihoods of their beneficiaries to move in and around their surroundings with ease.<\/p>\n

According to the press statement released by LUCT, 2020 has been a challenging year not just for individuals but for organizations and the government as well.<\/p>\n

\u201cA lot of money in different ministries has been spent on initiatives to fight COVID-19 pandemic and to stop the spread of this deadly disease.<\/p>\n

The government\u2019s initiative to try and contain this virus has left some other areas unattended due to lack of funds,\u201d reads the statement. Hoohlo said it is for this reason that LUCT saw it fit to lend a helping hand to the Ministry.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt is the university\u2019s hope that the ministry will distribute them to those in desperate need and that such people\u2019s lives would change through this donation,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

Ithuseng Vocational and Rehabilitation Centre Senior Rehabilitation Officer Palesa Mofubelu explained that the centre offers handicraft work such as knitting and sewing, carpentry, steel work and agriculture to people living with disability and the courses take 2 years.<\/p>\n

\u201cMost people living with disability do not get opportunities to better their skills and pave their future like the \u201cnormal\u201d beings,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n

She added that the ministry found it important to find means to rehabilitate them with skills, hence implemented the centre. Mofubelu said they accommodate at least 60 people, coming from different villages across the country.<\/p>\n

She pointed that they already have a list of beneficiaries for the wheelchairs from different districts. The Minister of Social Development Hon. \u2018Matebatso Doti said the ministry is currently faced with the greatest challenge on provision of wheelchairs, which is a dire need for social welfare.<\/p>\n

Doti said she wrote to LUCT management pleading for assistance and thanked their positive response, stating that the university knows the importance of extending the helping hand.<\/p>\n
